Our beloved Office Dog Heidi won Holyrood Dog Of The Year 2024. The competition is organised by The Kennel Club and the Dog's Trust and promotes the welfare of dogs. The prize giving took place at the Scottish Parliament in the Member's garden and the whole Office team was there to support our tiny Biewer Terrier.
It was a real shock to win as this was the first time entering the competition. I am delighted that Heidi has been crowned the winner. She just brightens everyone's day when she comes into the office.
Heidi belongs to one of my staff and is a two year old Biewer Terrier, which is, as I understand, a German Yorkie. Heidi helps her Nanna who had a Transient ischaemic attack last year. She has kept her active since and given her purpose and her confidence back. Dogs bring such joy to our lives and this competition is a great way to show this. It also gives us the chance to highlight the importance of animal welfare issues, like ethical breeding and responsible ownership.
Heidi will be returning to the competition next year to pass on her crown, but she will always be the Office Princess.
