Clydebank MSP Marie McNair praises long-running art group

CLYDEBANK'S MSP has congratulated a Clydebank art group for their 35 years of success after visiting their exhibition at the town hall.

Marie McNair was full of praise for the Faifley Art Group team who were putting on their first display in four years after nearly being forced to close the group due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently managed by Christine Smith, the group are currently resident at Clydebank Town Hall with their "Still Painting After All These Years" display.

And during a visit to the show of the group's work, Ms McNair said: “It was wonderful to meet Morag and Christine from the Faifley Art Group for the group’s recent exhibition.

"The wide variety of artwork the group has created is nothing short of fantastic, and I was pleased to purchase two pieces for my constituency office.

“The group is really talented and a great asset to our community.

"Not only do they provide a space for creativity to thrive, but also for meaningful social interaction and connections to develop amongst its members.

“I will always support local initiatives in our community, and this is one example of great success in our constituency.

"I urge everyone who has the chance to pop along and support our local artists.”

Marie McNair has also submitted a Scottish Parliament Motion recognising and congratulating the group for their outstanding work over the past 35 years.

Faifley Art Group was established in 1988 and now comprises a healthy 25 members, ranging from people in their fifties to the oldest member at 94.

Despite no formal teaching given, they meet at the Skypoint Community Centre on Wednesday mornings and members work at their own pace and create artwork using different subject matter and materials.

Over the years, they have held many exhibitions and have been successful in securing very important grants to allow them to continue their activities.

The current exhibition runs until November 13, Monday-Friday, 9.30am – 4.30pm where artwork can be viewed and purchased.

Entry is free.
